Fewer still could be said to have emerged from that morass with their basic design philosophies intact. The few that did survive rarely bore any resemblance to the cars they had been. So many storied nameplates failed to survive the emissions-regulations-choked, big-bumper-enforced, nanny-state-sponsored neutering of the North American automotive sector. They were tough on car buyers, car makers and car enthusiasts. The Automotive Dark Ages, that joyless stretch of time between 1973 and about 1985, were tough. ![]()
